Cecilia Paredes, Camouflage Self Portrait
Cecilia Parede explores the combination of camouflage with self portraits, the beautifully hand painted floral wallpaper esque backdrops align perfectly accross her body transforming her into part of it. I am interested in why she does this perhaps to turn herself into a beautiful pattern or to use it as a vehicle to her expression/of her personality
Leanne Shapton, Monday Night Movies, watercolour on paper, 2011
Shapton recreates stills from films which play in her memory, the dark saturated use of the watercolour and parts where the water bleeds evoke a dreamy effect and sort of nostalgia in a way glorifying the film which i think perfectly captures the way one can embellish on a memory or something they have seen.
Contstant nieuwenhuys, New Babylon,1959-1974
Constant Nieuwenhuys series of images "New Bablylon" shows an envisioned version of a future city consisting of connections which are able to transform for the Homo Ludens- man at play who is free from the need to work and has a nomadic existence in the various sectors of the metropolis. New Bablylon represents an alternative to the post war order. I find this idea fascinting and Constants work perfectly marries with it showing a futuristic and slightly playful composition and an element of mystery.
Patti Smith Self portrait, 2001, conte crayon on handmade paper
I find this self portrait very endearing Smith portrays herself with a certain raw harshness and an element of self scrutiny through the aggressive bold pencil lines. I really just like the identifiable signature style of the artist, the messy lines, the slightly birdlike qualities of the facial feautures a sense of vibrating energy in the lines.

Ry Fyan, The Metropolitan Meth Silo, 2006, Acrylic and Ink on panel.
The juxtaposition of different symbols, flags and beautifully drawn turrets of the castle drew me to the work the strange elements of clashing architecture and highly decorative patterns all merge together creating this bizarre but beautiful building. The slightly off colours contribute to the overall mystery of the work, am intriqued how the image has a recognisable yet ethereal/fantastical quality.
Dawn Clements,Travels with Myra Hudson, 2004, Ink on paper
Another work seen at the Saatchis Paper exhibition, Clement's vast continous ink drawing spread across two walls showing what I interpreted to be the path/trail of someones surroundings through a beautiful house. I think i was drawn to her drawings as i enjoy architectural drawings and clements' composition which almost hinted at a story stretching accross from one room to the next fluidly.
Defending Decisions, part of "Eraserhead" series of drawings by Christian Holstad.
